Final CAD project · Introduction to Graphics and Engineering Design (00340061), Technion · Group Project

A structure to launch a "bottle-rocket" by means of a mechanical release.
Required mechanisms
- Horizontal rotation of at least 180° and vertical tilt (elevation) of at least 45°, each with its own lock
- A mechanical release for the quick connector
Design and manufacturing constraints
- Mechanical mechanisms only
- At least 8 original parts
- Two moving sub-assemblies
- Maximum print volume of 200 × 200 × 200 mm
Rotating base
A rotating base fitted with stakes that drive into the ground, able to absorb the recoil and thrust forces at release. The rotation mechanism slides into the cylindrical base seat and turns freely through 360° to set the angle and position before locking. The central seat is a rigid perimeter structure with threaded bores for the locking screws and corner brackets that take the anchoring stakes.

Elevation mechanism
A slider/scissor mechanism combining a protractor and a wing screw. The whole mechanism sits inside a rectangular frame, chosen so it is bounded by the 200 mm circle of the base cover; the frame carries the pivot and the channel that allow the mechanism to move, and a protractor graduated in 10° steps. The sloped A-shaped part sets the vertical launch angle and travels close to 90°. The cylinder slides along the channel to set the angle and is held by two wing screws at its end.

Bottle interface and rail
The mechanical interface between the bottle and the elevation mechanism, guiding the bottle accurately. It has an end-stop at the rear to prevent the bottle slipping or falling out, while the front is left fully open so the bottle can leave freely at launch.

Release mechanism
A mechanical release that is quick, accurate and simple to operate. The release ring fits over the sleeve of the quick connector and carries anchor holes for a cord, so pulling the ring draws the connector directly back and vents the pressure.
